The School of Nursing and Midwifery at Queen’s University Belfast and Improving Children’s Lives welcome the submission of papers for oral or poster presentation at the forthcoming conference ‘Taking Action on Childhood Obesity’, being held in Belfast on 11 November 2010. This one day childhood obesity conference will bring together health education and social care professionals, scholars and researchers whose work focuses on improving the health of children and tackling obesity in childhood.

 

The overall theme for the conference is ‘Taking Action on Childhood Obesity’.  Broad themes for participants to explore include, but are not limited to: 

  • Educational strategies
  • Positive lifestyle strategies
  • Health promotion
  • Public health and policy
  • Evaluation/service-led strategies
  • Challenges in tackling childhood obesity: reflections from research and practice
  •  

The conference committee invites both research and practice-based papers.
Research-based papers: the report of research that involves the application or testing of a theory through the systematic collection and analysis of data.
Practice-based papers: the report of innovative or exemplary practices or programmes in communities, schools, health services and the like, which involve putting theory or research into practice.

Guidelines for submission of abstracts:

Abstracts of no more than 250 words should be sent as an email attachment to the conference committee by Saturday 31st July 2010childhoodobesityconference@qub.ac.uk. However, please be aware that abstracts received after the 31st July may still be favourably considered. Please indicate whether your submission is for an oral or poster presentation and whether it is research-based or practice-based. Abstracts should contain:
