“It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.” (Edward de Bono)
“Creativity is thinking up new things. Innovation is doing new things.” (Theodore Levitt)
This semester in the Graduate School is all about helping you to develop skills in creativity and innovation. In a rapidly changing world, we don’t know what that the future will look like; so what’s needed are flexible, imaginative, disruptive thinkers who can take on the challenge of the unexpected by looking at problems from different angles, applying their knowledge in new ways, working creatively across disciplines …
The Graduate School aims to be what Steve Johnson, global leader in creative thinking and innovation, calls a ‘liquid environment’, that is ‘a place where people from different backgrounds come together, to think differently in ways that transform themselves and their environment’.
So whatever stage you’re at in your postgraduate career, make sure that the Graduate School is part of your journey; and remember, you don’t have to be an artist to be creative; and innovation isn’t all about product design.
To help you navigate through all of the opportunities available to you, our team of training and development specialists have put together a selection of skills ‘journeys’. You can stop at every stage on the journey and take part in an activity or hop on and off as you prefer – these are just suggestions for how you might plan your own path this semester.
As with all of our activity in the Graduate School, these opportunities are all designed to encourage your development as a thinker, leader, communicator and innovator who is future-ready.
