Leading your PhD
The PhD experience is widely recognised as one of the most challenging projects imaginable. Leading your PhD is a 3-day leadership development programme which will provide you with the skills and support necessary to complete your PhD successfully. Crucially these skills are highly valued by academic and non-academic employers alike so this programme is for life, not just for now! The programme is applicable to anyone doing a PhD, MPhil or Professional Doctorate in any discipline and completion is a key requirement towards achievement of the new Certificate Level 5 in Leadership and Management.

Learn from proven leaders…The course combines short leadership presentations with team-based activities which provide an opportunity for leadership, feedback and reflection. The programme is led by facilitators who have significant experience in training and developing PhD students across a wide range of Universities as well as experience of leading and training within the private, public and voluntary sectors. Act now or miss out…In the next couple of months the Postgraduate Centre will be launching a new Certificate Level 5 in Leadership and Management for PhD students. This Certificate is externally accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (www.i-l-m.com/) and Queen’s University is the only University offering such a qualification to its PhD students. Attendance on the Leading Your PhD course is a key requirement for achieving this award. There is a non-refundable registration fee of £121 per student and the University will support the funding of 15 places on a no-fee basis in 2013.
What’s it worth?...The ILM Level 5 Award is available as an open programme to the public, at a cost of £1,995 per person and therefore this qualification represents significant value for money.
Of course you can attend the 3 day course and not apply for the award! Similar leadership courses which are open to the public cost approximately £1,500 per person. All we ask is that you pay a £50 refundable deposit.
