Course Aim

To enable participants to feel more informed about who they are and what they can do to lead their PhD and future career paths.

Course Objectives

  • To feel more confident and assertive in group environments such as conferences and meetings
  • To find new ways to sustain your motivation and clarity of direction throughout your PhD
  • To develop more self-awareness and the ability to work with people who think and operate differently to you
  • To change aspects of the way you approach your PhD

Facilitator Team

Ms Rachel McGill is Director of the programme. She has led many leadership programmes for Postgraduate Research Students and Postdoctoral Researchers and has significant experience in personal development and change management. The facilitator team have significant experience of developing postgraduate research students and come from a range of employment sectors. To read their profiles click here.

Programme Overview

Participants will be required to complete a confidential on-line Leadership Assessment Tool (The Resilient Leaders Assessment Tool) before attending the programme. A 3 day non-residential programme will run from 9.00am on Tuesday 18th June to 5.30pm on Thursday 20th June. The programme will be held at the International and Postgraduate Student Centre, Queens University, Belfast. Participants are expected to attend for the full duration of the programme as missing aspects of the programme will adversely impact the other participants and the overall ‘flow’ of the event. The programme is applicable to anyone doing a PhD, MPhil or Professional Doctorate, in any discipline. A refundable fee of £50 must be paid in order to confirm your place on the programme. This will be returned at the end of the programme. The PRDP Team will automatically credit your training account for three days, following the programme.      

Venue

The programme will be held at the International and Postgraduate Student Centre, Queens University, Belfast. A map of the location is attached here.  Car parking is not available on site, but may be available in the surrounding area.

Catering Arrangements

There will be tea and coffee breaks throughout the programme. Lunch will be provided each day. All catering is free of charge.
