This workshop is designed to give an overview of the facilities of the TurnitinUK Originality Checking Software allowing participants the opportunity to set up assignments and view originality reports. The software compares electronic copies of student assignments with a range of online sources and also a bank of previously submitted student work. In this way it can detect text matches which might be due to plagiarism.
The course will focus on how the tool may be used to illustrate the nature of plagiarism to students with a view to preventing plagiarism. The University’s recommended approaches to doing this in both the UG and PG contexts will be covered.
Designed for: Staff interested in using the TurnitinUK Originality Checking Software to assist in the prevention of plagiarism of both online sources and other student assignments.
Familiarity with a Windows environment.
