Queen's UCU

About UCU

The University and College Union (UCU)  is the result of a merger between the Association of University Teachers (AUT) and National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education (NATFHE) in 2006. This resulted in the creation of the largest tertiary education union in the world with 120000+ members across the UK. We have members in Universities and Colleges across the UK and are a strong voice with Government.

At Queen's, the parent union was AUT and our local association has an established history of participation at local and national level.

At local level, we represent you collectively and individually with management.

At national level, Queen's actively participates in the annual Congress and a recent achievement was initiating a campaign in defence of academic freedom.

We represent the entire academic team: academic staff, research staff, administrative staff, computing staff and library staff. In addition, we represent all staff on these grades whether permanent, fixed-term, part-time, hourly paid or job share. We believe that the role of academic-related staff is key to the University and must be defended if the academic team is to retain its value.
