As a member of Business in the Community NI, Queen’s staff have access to a number volunteering schemes. Volunteering provides professional development opportunities for staff as well as making a very important contribution to the local community in which we work and live by engaging with children and young people and supporting the regeneration of deprived communities.
Listed below are the volunteering schemes which you can get involved in. Staff are required to seek approval from their line manager, outlining to them how the volunteering opportunity will help support their professional development, before signing up for to a scheme.
|Time to Read||
A literacy programme in which volunteers dedicate time to read with two Key Stage 2 children(8-10 years old)
|One hour per week during term time|
|Aiming Higher||Mentoring a young person or fledgling business||One hour per fortnight for the academic year|
|Charter Work Inspiration||Delivering a careers talk, hosting an open day or providing a week of work experience||One hour, one day or one week|
|Silver Surfers and or Connect-Ability||Tackling digital exclusion for people across Northern Ireland) help seniors or those with disabilities get online||One day or one hour per week for four weeks|
|Business on Board||Web based match service to match business people with a board that they have a personal interest in||Two to three hour meetings, three to four times per year|
|ProHelp||Bringing professional advice to community, voluntary and social enterprise sectors to assist social and economic regeneration of communities in NI, e.g. help develop a website||Ten to twelve hours over three months|
