Sonorities Festival Belfast
Call for submissions. Deadline 15 November 2014
Festival dates: 22 - 26 April 2015
There’s an argument that all the best stories have always been non-linear - have always played with our sense of passing time in a dynamic manner, moulding our anticipations, expectations and our capacity to remember. And recent theory and technology have enhanced our capacity to play with such notions; with the sense that all our narratives form histories, and all our histories are narratives. Sonorities 2015 explores our capacity for resolving the discontinuous or the incommensurable into some sort of continuity; conceptually, sonically, visually.
The central invitation concert will feature a work newly commissioned for the Sonic Lab at SARC from Denis Smalley - arguably the most significant figure in UK electroacoustic music - responsible for directing the Electroacoustic Music Studios at the University of East Anglia for nearly 20 years, for effectively importing the acousmatic form into the UK from France, and for developing its key supporting discourse in English with the notion of spectromorphology - the sense of composing with sound spectra which are shaped over time.

Proposals are invited for works (performances and installations) for the festival.
Festival proposals should take the form of submissions of audio or audio-visual works. Please note that the cost of attendance/performance at Sonorities must be covered by the participants themselves. The Sonorities Festival has no funding to cover fees for musicians, travel, or accommodation. Letters of invitation can be supplied on request if participants wish to source their own funding.
All composition and installation submissions should be in the form of a single compressed file (.zip, .rar or .tar – max size 2Gb) of a folder containing the appropriately completed submission document, media files (standard sound, image or video formats) that clearly represent the piece being proposed, and one or two high resolution image files of the artist(s) or an image related to the submitted work. The folder must have the name of the submitting artist.
The Sonorities website at www.sonorities.org.uk/ will shortly be updated with additional details of featured performers.
