Sonorities 1999 is undoubtedly one of the largest new musicevents in Ireland for many years.  More than 120 musicians will be taking part ineighteen events with the vast majority of the music being performed for the first time inIreland. 

The centrepiece of the Festival will be the first ever visit to Ireland by the LondonSinfonietta (a visit made possible with assistance from the Britten PearsFoundation).  They will be presenting two events with their full ensemble - onefeaturing the music of  Jonathan Harvey the other a colour array ofpieces by British composers including Birtwistle, Holt and Sawyer.  TheSinfonietta will also be premiering a new concerto for two violins and chamberorchestra by Kevin Volans (a Sonorities Commission).  Both Harveyand Volans will be attending the Festival and giving lectures on their works.  Sonorities has also commissioned pieces by Jonty Harrison ( acousmatictape piece) and Fergus Johnston (solo percussion piece for JonnyAxelsson.

Other performers taking part include the Ulster Orchestra,National Chamber Choir of Ireland, Irish Chamber Orchestra,Jonny Axelsson and the Brian Irvine Ensemble.
