Unknowing conference thanks

The organisers would like to thank all participants for making Unknowing a success. The quality of the discussion stimulated by papers and workshops was consistently high, and feedback suggests that many valuable academic and social connections were made between delegates. We are in the process of considering ways of sustaining this dialogue, and keeping open the networks created by the conference.

At this stage, we would also like to note two future AHRC-sponsored events which may be of interest:

Centre for Medieval & Early Modern Studies, Rutherford College, University of Kent: Bad Behaviour colloquium, December 3, 2009. Contact Diane Heath (badbehaviour@kent.ac.uk).

School of English, Queen’s University Belfast: Mapping Late Medieval Lives of Christ conference, June 10-13, 2010. Contact Dr Ryan Perry (r.perry@qub.ac.uk).

Conference Venue

The Unknowing conference venue will be the Humanities Postgraduate Centre, 18 College Green, Belfast BT7 1NN.

Registration will take place in the centre’s common room (located at the front of the building at ground level), with conference sessions taking place in the seminar room opposite.

The Humanities Postgraduate Centre is located on College Green, next door to the Institute of Lifelong Learning (marked 39 on QUB Campus Map)

Unknowing in Queen’s Now

Unknowing has been featured in the latest issue of Queen’s Now (page 11). The complete issue can be found in electronic form at this location.

Conference Handbooks

The Unknowing conference handbook is currently being distributed to registered delegates by post, in paper and CD-ROM versions. Addenda and corrigenda will be circulated by email where appropriate.

Delegates are encouraged to read the papers included in the handbook before the conference, since speakers will invite responses and questions after presenting a brief synopsis of their material.

Non-Speaker Registration open

Those interested in attending the conference can now register by email - further details can be found here. The closing date for registration is April 10, 2009. Delegates should note that there will be no conference fee for Unknowing.

Submission Guidelines

Information for delegates on the preparation of completed papers (to be submitted by April 5) is now available in the Guidelines for Contributors section.

Updated programme

The draft conference programme has now been updated to reflect some changes in running order made to accommodate delegates.

Provisional Programme available

A draft programme is now available to view under the Programme tab.

Please note that no student papers have been scheduled for the afternoon of Sunday May 24, in order to facilitate the travel arrangements of delegates and to permit a planned film screening at Queen’s Film Theatre.

Travel Information Updated

With all bursaries now having been allocated, the “Travel & Bursaries” section has been replaced with a “Travel Information” section, offering details on how to get to the university campus as well as information on local accommodation. Any further queries should be directed to unknowing@qub.ac.uk.

End of abstract submission period

The deadline for abstracts has now passed, and applicants have been contacted by email. Information on the compiling of papers will be issued in January, after which the conference programme will be finalised and made available online.
