Maths and Physics

We offer a unique four week programme delivered by the School of Mathematics and Physics at Queen’s University Belfast.

The Mathematics and Physics (MAP) Summer School will offer mini-courses covering a range of forefront topics in Mathematical Sciences and Physics. In addition to the academic knowledge gained in the lectures, students will also benefit from practical projects in modern laboratories, the extensive usage of computer facilities and an extensive programme developing computing, information processing, problem solving and oral communication skills.

MODULE 1

Professional Skills & Career Development

Broaden your expertise to develop your enterprise skills or secure your dream job. Explore the leadership challenges faced in a climate of constant change.

MODULE 2

Mathematics & Statistical Data

The mini-courses will comprise both theoretical and computational aspects of the subject, leading to the acquisition of high level problem-solving skills, the understanding of the use of mathematical software for performing mathematical tasks, and the ability to analyse data.

MODULE 3

Physics

This module will cover a broad spectrum of Physics where you will learn advanced topics in Astrophysics, Nanoscale Materials, Plasma Physics and Quantum Physics. You will gain hands-on experience by working in our laboratories.

World-Class Facilities

Since 2014 the School has invested over £12 million in new world-class student and staff facilities.

Maths and Physics students now have their own teaching centre that opened in 2016, housing brand experimental physics laboratories, two large computer rooms for mathematical simulations and student study, plus a student interaction area along with a new lecture theatre and study rooms.

SCHOOL OF MATHS AND PHYSICS
THE FOUNDATION OF ALL KNOWLEDGE

Mathematics and Physics underpins our everyday world. From mobile phone networks to medical imaging, we use fundamental mathematics and physics every day without realising it. Whether you study Mathematics, Physics or a combination of both, you will be part of one of the largest Schools in the University. The research intensity of both Mathematics and Physics are in the top 20 among all the UK universities based on the results of REF2014. Our researchers work closely with industries and service providers in Europe and across the world.

We provide an inclusive and supportive environment for all students; in 2017 we were re-awarded a prestigious Silver Award by Athena SWAN in recognition of good practice in promoting women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
