Welcome to the EIT Food School Network!

The School Network was set up in 2018 to develop links between schools, key stakeholders in school food, and EIT Food, a leading food innovation initiative. Collaborators AZTI, Queen’s University Belfast, Grupo AN, and University of Helsinki began working to meet the overall aim of improving food choices and reducing food waste in preschool, primary and secondary school pupils across Europe. In 2019, two additional partners joined the School Network – University of Warsaw and the University of Reading.

Throughout 2019, project partners were busy developing resources for preschool, primary schools and secondary schools and piloting these resources across the partner countries. This included the development of a new educational app for preschools and an online game for primary school pupils.

In 2020, the project partners held four online stakeholder workshops to share the results of the 3-year project and discuss ideas to continue working towards the goal of improving food choices in school pupils. Project partners also created an educational programme designed for schools to teach children about mindful eating practices. The materials for the mindful eating programme are available in four languages and include PowerPoint presentations, posters, worksheets, and a teacher's manual.

The video below explains how the EIT Food School Network has worked towards improving dietary choices and reducing food wastage in preschool, primary school and secondary school pupils by bringing together industry, academia and key stakeholders in school food.
