Fireside Chat - Religion in Education: Time for Change? - Dr James Nelson
5:00PM - 6:00PM
Common Room, Mitchell Institute, 18-19 University Square
In this conversation, Dr James Nelson will briefly present findings from several research projects to inform a discussion about the nature of religion in education on the island of Ireland. The findings point to growing incongruities in education systems that give significant control to a small number of Christian Churches on an island that is increasingly secular and religiously diverse. Drawing on a range of examples, particular attention will be given to the nature of religious education curricula and the how plural beliefs are handled in the classroom.
The Fireside Chats are an informal speaker series which allows both staff and students to casually present their research to the community in a social setting. The Fireside Chats will be held on the last Wednesday of each month from 5—6pm in the Mitchell Institute Common Room. Snacks (wine and cheese) will be provided. The schedule of Fireside Chats for this Semester can be found here (include link to schedule).
