Time

Dr Rachel Killean and Dr Lauren Dempster (QUB School of Law) will deliver a presentation titled  '“Greening” Transitional Justice?’

Environmental destruction can act as both a source and consequence of conflict, atrocity, and repression, yet environmental harms are often unseen and under-theorised in the context of transitional justice. This presentation explores this historical invisibility and considers what a turn towards a ‘green’ transitional justice might look like, drawing from critical transitional justice scholarship and green criminology. In particular, we critique transitional justice’s ‘dominance of legalism’, neocolonial tendencies and ‘liberal imprints’, and interrogate their implications for the visibility of environmental harm.

Dr Rachel Killean is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Law, and Dr Lauren Dempster is a Lecturer at the School of Law.

While we can’t provide the wine or snacks, you are encouraged to bring your own!

Please register via email to mitchell.institute@qub.ac.uk by noon on Tuesday 27 April 2021.   A meeting link will be sent to you before the event.
