Planning
Do you have what it takes to inspire the evolution of our cities, towns, villages, neighbourhoods and communities? Planning is about transforming and improving the places within which we live.
A planning degree will give you the knowledge and skills to influence how we live today and in the future, and to make decisions that shape the processes of growth and development.
Planning is an extremely exciting discipline to study, especially today, in the face of major challenges such as attracting investment, creating jobs, protecting the environment, energy policy, housing supply, transport links, providing local amenities – and planning affects how these things happen. Therefore, as future planners you will have a very important role to play in shaping the future.

Planning: Planning for the post-COVID Healthy City
Cities are one of the most complex phenomena in the universe, the home to the majority of humanity and the drivers of innovation and national economies. The success of cities is not guaranteed – they need coordinated investment and anticipation of future risks, provided by the planning profession. One of the most important duties of planners is to keep city dwellers healthy; this has evolved from ensuring clean water supply and overcrowding in the early industrial era to contemporary health challenges of stemming from obesity, poor air quality and more recently the re-emergence of devastating contagious disease, COVID-19. This talk will explore how we should expect cities to respond to this crisis, and how we can use it as an opportunity to address some of the pre-existing health issues of the 21st Century city.
