Judit is a technician in the Wellcome Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine and here she explains the importance of professional registration for her own personal developement. Judit recently renewed her professional registration as a Registered Scientist with the Institute of Science and Technology (IST).

"I'm a research technician working in Prof Ultan Power's lab, with extensive international experience (Hungary, USA, Spain). During my time at Queens I’ve been involved in building a human epithelial biobank, asthma- and respiratory virus research and lately Covid-19 research.
I became a Registered Scientist in 2019 before the pandemic hit. While I have years of training and diplomas from other countries, I believe this recognition of my expertise is going to be better acknowledged in the UK, which is an important aspect of building a career."

 

Anne Jordan is a Research Technician in the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research and successfully achieved Registered Chartered Scientist with IST in 2021. Anne talks about the process involved and what this achievement means to her.

"Hi, I'm Anne and I am a Research Technician in the Department of Haematology in the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research. I have worked in this department in the present building since it opened back in 2007. Before that I was in the Belfast City Hospital site on floor C and in the Royal Victoria Hospital prior to that. So, as you can imagine I have seen many changes over the years. During the process of Professional Registration, it gave me the opportunity to reflect on my contribution to the haematology team over the years. The application process involved a lot of hard work and time to get the information into the detail and format that was required. However, it was worth it in the end."
