How do I apply for accommodation?
You can apply for accommodation by visit our website and clicking the link apply now;
https://www.qub.ac.uk/accommodation/
You must first create an account and then login. If you have previously applied for accommodation, you will already have an account.
- When will 1st Year students be allocated a room?
Allocations will commence from A-Level Results Day, 17 August 2023 onwards.
- I haven’t received an allocation after results day - 1st Year
Allocations are a manual process for the team and do take time to process. We would ask for your patience at this time. We would also advise to keep a check on your emails, including your junk folder.
- When can I check into my room?
40 & 48 week contracts will commence on the 3rd September 2022.
44 week contracts (through our external providers) will commence on the 10th September 2022.
51 week contracts will commence on the 17th September 2022. (51 Week contracts in Novel starts 10th Sept)
The Accommodation Team will contact NI students prior to the arrivals period with details on how to book their arrival slot on Eventbrite.
- What date do I start paying rent from?
40 & 48-week applicants will start paying from the 3rd September 2022 and 51-week applicants will start paying from the 17th September 2022, regardless if the student arrives later than this.

If I am allocated to LIV, Novel or Student Roost who is my contract with?
If you apply for one of our external accommodation partners above via the Queen’s online application, your contract will be with Queens Accommodation and you will be bound by our Conditions of Occupancy.
- Can I get a show round of accommodation?
We currently cannot offer show rounds, however you can book a campus tour by visiting https://www.qub.ac.uk/about/Visit-Us/Campus-Tours-Meet-Us/

- Can I come and see my room before I arrive?
Unfortunately, we cannot show student their specific room prior to arrival as we will be preparing for the new intake and some students will still be living here.

- I am a nursing student, what contract can I apply for?
To support Queen’s Nursing and Midwifery students who are required to spend time on placement throughout their degree course, a limited number of places are available on a short-term rental basis (6-8 weeks) as well as on a longer contract length of 40 weeks. The short-term places for 6-8 week contracts will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, by date of application for accommodation. All other contracts will be allocated in line with the allocation policy.
- Can I share with my friend / can I be allocated with my friend?

Do I need to add my bank details?
You will be required to upload your bank details if you are paying by direct debit.
- Can I add a kitchen / bedding pack to my application?
This can be done via the application portal. If you have already submitted your application, please contact accommodation@qub.ac.uk.
- I am a first year NI Student how will my application be processed?
Allocations for NI students will be based on distance lived from campus. Priority will be given to students who have applied by 30 June 2022 and have made Queen’s their firm choice.
- How can I pay for my accommodation?
When applying for accommodation you can select your preferred payment schedule:
Full Payment on or before arrival
2 instalments (1 on or before arrival / 1 on or before 1st February)
1 instalment & 3 Direct Debits (must have / open a UK bank account) 1st instalment on or before arrival
3 Direct Debits (must have a UK Bank account)
7 Direct Debits (must have a UK Bank account)
- Will I get my £300 damage deposit back?
Yes, you will get this £300 damage deposit back at the end of your tenancy provided there is no damage in your room upon check out, and you have no outstanding fees on your account.

- What do I need to bring with me?
You have the option to purchase a kitchen and bedding pack from our reception when you check in to your accommodation. The beds are not dressed on arrival, and therefore you would need to purchase a bedding pack or bring one with you. You will also have to bring kitchen items and utensils if you choose not to purchase the kitchen pack. Each kitchen area is supplied with a kettle, toaster, microwave and Rice cookers.
- How are allocations processed?
The ethos in Queen’s Accommodation is to endeavour to allocate year groups together. We try to house students from different cultures and courses together in order to give all of our residents a broad University halls experience. We process allocations dependent on the preferences students give on their application. You can have a maximum of 10 preferences on your application and we would try our best to offer you one of these.
- What is included in the bedding / kitchen pack?

Can St Mary’s students apply for accommodation?
St Mary’s students, and students from other further and higher institutions in Northern Ireland, can now apply to live with us during the academic year 2022-23.
- Are there any laundry facilities?
All accommodation has access laundry facilities.
- Is Queen’s Sport membership offered to students living in Liv, Novel or Student Roost?
Queen’s Sport membership is not offered to students contracted with us for accommodation in LIV, Novel or Student Roost; these locations have their own gym facilities.
- I have a disability. Who do I contact?
If you have a disability and require specific accommodation, you would need to contact Disability Services who will arrange a meeting with you - https://www.qub.ac.uk/directorates/sgc/disability/. Please also ensure that you fill out the relevant section on your application with any information we may need to consider when allocating you to a room. Please note that this information must be provided on the application portal if you wish it to be considered.
- Can I park my car at my Accommodation?
We have a pay as you go car park in Elms Village BT9. This costs 70p per day and can be used by all students living in Queen’s Accommodation. We also offer designated parking spaces within BT9, however these would be generally reserved for those students who have disabilities/mobility issues. We do not have parking facilities in BT1/BT2/off site houses/LIV/Student Roost/Novel.

What are the reception opening times?
BT9 reception is open 24 hours a day, whilst BT1 and BT2 are open from 8am to 8pm. Outside the normal operating hours of reception, there is a safety team available on site. These times may be subject to change during holiday periods.
- What is the Guest Policy for 2022/23?
Now that COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. the Policy for 2022-23 will be reinstated from 1 March 2022, except during the St Patrick’s day period 16th-18th. March inclusive. We will continue to follow government guidelines and will update our guest policy accordingly in the future.
- I have received my offer how quickly do I have to respond?
Accepting or declining the offer: Students will be given a specific timeframe (usually 48 hours) in which to accept their offer of accommodation - this will be detailed in the offer email. Students who have not accepted their offer within the specified timeframe, or who decline the offer of accommodation, will forfeit the guarantee and the offer of accommodation will be withdrawn. If accommodation is subsequently required, a new application must be made, a subsequent offer is not guaranteed.
- If I make an application after the 30th June will I get allocated a room?
30 June 2022 is the closing date for guaranteed accommodation for International, GB and ROI students; these students must have applied for accommodation and made Queen’s their firm choice by this date, or such earlier date as may be notified, to be guaranteed an offer for accommodation.
NI Students are not guaranteed an offer, but priority is for students who have applied for accommodation and made Queen’s their firm choice by 30 June 2022.
All applications made after 30 June 2022 will be processed subject to availability of places.
