The Cleaning service provides routine scheduled indoor cleaning and specialist non-routine cleaning using in-house staff and contractors. Most contracted services can be booked through the Estates Helpdesk.
Our Cleaning team aims to enhance the appearance of the University and to provide a safe and healthy working and study environment for all users.
All cleaning is carried out in a safe and efficient manner and all materials used adhere to Health and Safety Legislation, ensuring that they are environmentally friendly and non-harmful.

All University buildings are cleaned, Monday to Friday, between 6.00am and 2.00pm. Any additional non-scheduled or specialist cleaning requests outside of these normal working hours are subject to additional charges.

- Specialist/Non-Routine Cleaning
For any cleaning request which is additional to normal cleaning provision, please contact the Estates Helpdesk (ext. 5152 or through PlanOn). Window cleaning, carpet cleaning, venetian blind cleaning, and cleaning outside of normal working hours are all additional to normal requirements and will be charged to the Department/Area requesting the work.

Costed per job depending on height and seize of glazing, access etc.
Standard Window (186x180cm²):

Cleaning (Normal Hours)
£13 per hour – 6am-2pm
Out of Hours Cleaning (after 2pm, weekend, and University Closure period)
£74 for four hours minimum.
£19.50 per hour (four hour, minimum charge for call outs, or separate working day).
One hour is approximately 250m² of cleaning for general areas.
- Cleaning Audits
Daily audit and manual inspections are carried out throughout University buildings. These are processed using the latest technology to produce management reports and benchmarking standards to ensure that quality targets are achieved. Audits are carried out between 8am and 12 noon Monday to Friday by internal Estates personnel and, where applicable, a joint inspection with the Contracted service provider.
Staff are actively encouraged to notify cleaning staff through the Helpdesk (ext.5152) if they find any areas that are not up to standard, and remedial action will be taken. All complaints are tracked and progress is monitored, with details included in a monthly report to the Director of Estates.
