All University buildings are cleaned, Monday to Friday, between 7.00am to 2.00pm.  Any additional non-scheduled or specialist cleaning requests outside of these normal working hours are subject to additional charges.  Please refer to the Service Quality Commitment or contact the Cleaning Manager, Keith Halliday ext 1110 or, for costs for additional/specialist cleans.

Basic Cleaning Schedule

Routine cleaning is carried out as follows:


  • Empty waste bins (daily)
  • Damp dust furniture and fittings (weekly)
  • Dust magnet or damp mop hard floors (weekly)
  • Vacuum soft floors (weekly)

Washroom Areas

  • Cleaning wcs, urinals and washhand basins (daily)
  • Replenish toilet rolls and hand towels (daily)
  • Dust magnet and damp mop floors (daily)
  • Clean all pipes, radiators and skirting boards (daily)

Lecture Theatres/Classrooms and Seminar rooms

  • Empty waste bins (daily)
  • Check clean floor (daily)
  • Dust magnet and damp mop floor/spray clean/vacuum floor (weekly)
  • Damp dust all fixtures and fittings (weekly)


  • Empty waste bins (daily)
  • Dust magnet and damp mop floors and spray clean or burnish (weekly)


  • Sweep hard floors (daily)
  • Vacuum soft floors (3 x weekly)
  • Damp dust all handrails, ledges etc (weekly)

Corridors and other common areas

  • Empty waste bins (daily)
  • Sweep hard floors (daily)
  • Vacuum soft foors (daily)
  • Dust magnet and damp mop floors (weekly)
  • Damp dust window ledges, window sills etc (weekly)

Feminine Hygiene

Vending machines are serviced and stocked every four weeks, and sanitary bins replaced every four weeks.

Dust Mats

Dust mats are located to the entrance to some buildings and are replaced and cleaned weekly.  Requests for new dust mats will be charged to the Department or building requesting the mat.

Roller towels/Dryers

Cleaning staff replace the towels daily as necessary in all of the toilet facilities.  Hand Dryers have also been introduced in some buildings to supplement roller towels.

Toilet consumables, toilet tissue and soap refills

Cleaning staff replenish  stocks of toilet tissue as necessary.
