Launch of Inclusive Employment Scheme

Wednesday 1st March saw the launch of the third year of the very successful QUB Inclusive Employment Scheme

The Inclusive Employment Scheme is co-ordinated by the Equality and Diversity Unit in partnership with  the Department for Communities and various disability organisations.  It provides a great opportunity for people with disabilities to gain valuable work experience, develop new skills and knowledge and to develop relationships with our staff and students.

The first two years of the scheme have proven to be extremely successful and a worthwhile experience for both individuals on placement and QUB staff working alongside them.

The Department for Communities has been a really valuable partner in this programme and the continuing success of the scheme is down to the good working relationships we have built up with Terry Parkes from DFC and his colleagues.

In 2014, we had 12 participants and last year we had 8.  We are delighted to say that this year we have 14 people placed so far, from organisations such as the Cedar Foundation, Insight Accessibility, Orchardville Society, Action Mental Health, Disability Action and Mencap with a few more potential placements still to be filled.

The Schools and Departments participating so far this year are:-

  • Marketing, Recruitment and Communications
  • Finance
  • Disability Services
  • Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences
  • Social Sciences, Education and Social Work
  • Maths and Physics
  • Information Services
  • Student Plus
  • Estates and
  • Human Resources
