Queen's University Belfast recently collected a major national award reflecting the work it delivers in relation to Equality and Diversity on campus, winning the "Best Large Public Sector Employer" at the inaugrual Legal-Island Equality and Diversity Gala on Friday 31 March in Belfast City Hall.

The University fought off the challenge of 6 other employers including Belfast Health and Social Care Trust, Belfast City Council and Derry City Council, scoring the highest points across all the categories drawing comments from the Gala judges that the University's “genuine enthusiasm for equality and diversity was palpable” and that they were impressed by “future plans for more innovative training and tacking difficult issues. Plus how they [Queen’s] displayed a wide array of multiple activities facilitating greater understanding between students of diverse ethnicities and celebrating diversity.”
Commenting on the University’s win, Director of Legal Island, Barry Phillip commented “Queen’s university were in a really tough category. To come out on top and win is testament to the great things going on in the university in the area of equality and diversity. It’s mightily impressive..!”
The University won the Award for Best Large Employer in the NI Public Sector.
