The University recognises the following trade unions for representative purposes for categories of staff listed and members of staff are free to decide whether or not to become members:

These unions are involved in collective agreements that directly affects the terms and conditions of staff. Details of any agreements may be consulted in the Human Resources Directorate at any reasonable time.
The University holds regular meetings with the Trade Unions:
- The Joint Consultative Committee, comprising University Management and representatives of the three recognised Trade Unions, meets to discuss employment matters which are common to all categories of staff.
- The Joint Consultative and Negotiating Committee, comprising University Management and representatives of UCU, meets to discuss issues particular to academic and academic-related staff.
