Brian Parkes, People and Culture Director

Welcome to the Queen’s University People and Culture webpages for International Staff.

Whether you are considering a move here, have just accepted a new role, or have been working with us for some time, it’s our aim to ensure that you have all the information and support to ensure that you and your family feel at home here in Belfast. On these webpages, you’ll find everything you need to make your move here as straightforward as possible and to help you settle into life in Northern Ireland.

Queen’s is a truly international place to work. As part of our vision to conduct internationally acclaimed research on global themes and to provide outstanding teaching to our students, we employ people from many nations across the world. We know that our staff play a pivotal role in achieving our vision, and our People First strategy places people at the centre of everything we do here at Queen’s. Under the three pillars of Employee Experience, Culture and Talent, we strive to listen to our people and work together to co-create the best possible experience working here in order to ensure we are an Employer of Choice.

We recognise that there may be questions or concerns that are specific to our international staff, and there are a number of specific initiatives in place at Queen’s to ensure they feel supported. We operate a ‘Buddy’ scheme to ensure all those arriving in Belfast to start their new job at Queen’s have a specific contact to answer any queries. We have also launched iRise, our BAME and International Staff Network. iRise provides a space for networking, peer support and provides a range of social activities both inside and outside of work.

There is a growing and vibrant staff team at Queen’s and international staff make a valuable contribution to this. We understand that the decision to move to Belfast is a significant step – both professionally and personally – and every effort is made to support those making that transition. We hope that you will choose to enjoy a long and fulfilling career with us within a positive and enjoyable working environment here at Queen’s, and that you and your family feel happy and at home in Belfast.
