Managing Long Term Sickness Absence
Long-term absences are defined as an absence from work due to illness or injury, which lasts for at least 4 weeks
For long term sickness absences, you should keep in reasonable contact with the employee throughout their absence. You should agree with an employee the method of contact and frequency; whether telephone, email, or a mix, and how often you will be in touch. Contact with the employee should be focused on their health and wellbeing in the context of genuine welfare assistance and should not be any sense of intrusion into private matters or pressure concerning the employee’s return to work.
