Is there a minimum age to register for a Language Centre course?
You must be over 16 to attend any online Language Centre course and over 18 to attend any in person course.
- What are the course fees?
There are different fees depending on registration type. All course fees are payable on enrolment.
--Queen's Student fee: £20.00
--Queen's Staff fee: £20.00
--General Public: £88.00
We do not offer any concession fees.
- Are these courses accredited?
A Queen's Certificate will be awarded to all students who attend regularly. A minimum of 70% attendance is required for certification.
In addition any current Queen's student can apply for Degree Plus accreditation. Degree Plus enables students to gain recognition from Queen’s for completing extra-curricular work related learning alongside their degree.
Most students gain Degree Plus by completing a Provider Verified Activity (Formerly Route A). It is also possible to gain recognition for more than one student led activity by submitting a Combined Experience Application (Formerly Route B).
Employers are looking for graduates who can demonstrate that they have the skills needed for workplace success – the Degree Plus Award will help you do this! For further information please see , Degree Plus .
- How often do I attend?
Classes, are held weekly as far as possible outside normal university teaching hours (e.g. late afternoon, early evening, some are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon) and run for 10 weeks starting in October, January and April. You will also be expected to complete homework ahead of each weekly class.
- Is my registration fee transferrable?
Yes, if you feel after your first class that the level of language is too high/low, you can transfer to another class, provided that there is available space and the class is running in that semester. It isn't possible to transfer after week 3. Also it isn't possible to transfer from one semester to another.

What's the refund policy?
All refunds before the start of the course must be requested in writing. Refunds are paid as follows:
Semester 3 (Please note EVENTBRITE will charge 6% administration fee on all refunds)
Before (and including) 11 April – full refund
12 April to 19 April (inclusive) – 50% refund
No refunds available from 20 April 2023 (inclusive)
Refunds are not normally paid after the beginning of classes. Any such request must be made in writing to the Language Centre Manager and must be related to reasons beyond your control and supported by written evidence. These refunds will be at the Language Centre Manager’s discretion. All refunds, where agreed, will be subject to an administrative fee of £10.00 for QUB staff and students and £40 for members of the public.

- What are your terms and conditions?
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. You must be a minimum of 18 years old to register for an in person course and a minimum of 16 years old to register for any on-line Language Centre course.
2. The course administration fee is due with registration. This fee does not include any optional external examination.
3. The course text book, if recommended, should be purchased. Should a class be cancelled any texts purchased are non-refundable by the Language Centre.
4. If you fail to attend three or more LNS classes without consulting the Language Centre office, you will be considered to have formally withdrawn and your place may be offered to someone else. This does not apply to Certificate courses.
5. Any request for a class change can only be made in consultation with the Language Centre and depends upon the availability of places. Any student wishing to change class must do see by Friday of the first week of classes. Under no circumstance is it possible to join a class after week 3.
6. The Language Centre reserves the right to change fees and charges without notice before a class is advertised.
7. The Language Centre reserves the right to cancel any course which does not recruit a viable number of students. A full refund will be made in these circumstances.
8. The Language Centre will endeavour to keep to the published timetable, but reserves the right to alter times/dates in the event of unforeseen circumstances. Should a student consequently be unable to attend, a full refund will be made.
9. The Language Centre reserves the right to cancel classes in the event of teacher absence. In such cases the teacher will endeavour to find a mutually agreeable time with the majority of students to re-schedule classes. No refunds will be made in the event of some students being unable to subsequently attend.
11. All refunds before the start of the course must be requested in writing. Please note that while Queen's do not charge for issuing refunds, EVENTBRITE have introduced an administration fee of 6%. Consequently refunds are paid as follows (less 6% of the course fee)

13. No refund will be paid in the event that a student has broadband/connection issues and is unable to access classes. It is a student’s responsibility to ensure that they have access to Microsoft Teams and adequate broadband before registering for a class.
- How will this course be delivered?
This semester we will be offering both online and in person courses.
Online Courses: This is an online learning class which will consist of a weekly 90 minute MS Teams class together with supporting resources. These resources will include a 5-10 minute preparation video, focussing on a relevant language teaching point to the upcoming class and 30 minutes of online exercises to follow up on teaching in the online class. You will be expected to watch the video and complete the online exercises ahead of each weekly class. Online classes will be delivered using Microsoft Teams and will be limited to a maximum of 20 students. These classes are being designed to be interactive and engaging.
In Person Courses: This is a blended learning class which will consist of a weekly 120 minute in person class together with supporting resources. These resources will include a 5-10 minute preparation video, focussing on a relevant language teaching point to the upcoming class and 30 minutes of online exercises to follow up on teaching in the in person class. You will be expected to watch the video and complete the online exercises ahead of each weekly class. In person classes will be delivered in venues based on the main Queen's campus and will be limited to a maximum of 20 students.
- When can I register for a course?
Registration will open on our website, www.qub.ac.uk/lc, on Wednesday 1 March at 00:30 and will close promptly on Thursday 20 April 2023 at 17:00.
