SharePoint

SharePoint is a Microsoft product used to create websites and organisation Intranets. You can use it as a secure place to store, organize, share, and access information from any device. All you need is a web browser, such as Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox. Here we will discuss SharePoint as a data storage option however SharePoint provides much broader functionality including Lists, Blogs, Calendars, Apps, etc.

SharePoint can be ‘On Premise’ where the product is hosted on servers maintained and managed by Queen's or ‘Online’ where the product is hosted on servers in the Cloud maintained and managed by Microsoft.

Currently Queen’s standard SharePoint offering is ‘on Premise’ and these pages only discuss SharePoint on Premise. SharePoint ‘Online’ is in use as the file storage facility for Microsoft Teams but not yet as a standalone option for SharePoint sites in Queen's.

However, like most Organisations, Queen’s direction of travel is towards the Cloud and the intention is to migrate all SharePoint On Premise sites to SharePoint Online over a period of time.
