Studying in the Library

Study spaces are designed to suit the way you want to work and there are a variety of spaces across all libraries.

McClay Library Atrium with student PCs

Facilities include:

  • PC workstations
  • Individual study booths, tables and rooms
  • Group study rooms
  • Silent and whisper zones

Study Rooms

We provide a number of group study rooms across all 3 library branches; The McClay Library, the Medical Library and the Biomedical Library. These rooms provide discussion and study space for small groups of students and are equipped with a computer and either a plasma screen or projection facilities. If you wish to use one of these rooms, please book your slot via Queen’s Online, paying close attention to the maximum occupancy of the room.

There are a small number of individual study rooms in the McClay Library and the Biomedical Library. These can be used by individuals for single study or parent/child study. Again, they should be booked via Queen’s Online.

If you have booked one of the study rooms and aren’t sure of where it is located, please ask at any of the Borrower Services Desks or Enquiry Desks. Alternatively access the 360 maps of the McClay Library.

Silent and Whisper Zones

There are silent and whisper zones in each of our libraries, helping create an environment conducive to study.  If you wish to make a complaint or provide feedback about noise, please use the Library libchat facility, providing details of where you are located in the library. We will endeavour to deal promptly with any feedback provided about excessive noise.
