Development Weeks Internship (2 Weeks)

The Development Weeks Internship Award provides Queen’s students with the chance to gain recognition and accreditation for two weeks’ work experience gained between 14 May and 1 June 2018 with an approved Development weeks’ Internship Employer.

Students can gain experience and build employability and relevant career skills by:

  • Searching for available job opportunities on MyFuture;

  • Identifying suitable positions which will promote the development of career relevant or specific skills and/or may enable students to test a particular sector or career pathway; &

  • Subsequently following the recruitment and formal application and selection processes for the position in keeping with employer requirements and which will entail either preparing an appropriately researched and tailored CV and cover letter for the post and uploading both to the MyFuture platform or submitting a formal application form for the position.

The internship experience will be full-time and intensive over a two-week period and will introduce students to the rigors, discipline and pace of a challenging professional career where they will be expected to work closely with others as part of a professional team in the delivery of a professional project where they will play a key role in achieving agreed goals within specified deadlines. The experience will create stimulating opportunities for students to successfully apply academic learning and skills gained from their degree within a real life professional work based context giving them the confidence and ability to build on these skills that demonstrates their ability to make a successful transition into a graduate job role in the near future.

In order to qualify for accreditation, students must:

  • Secure the Internship and complete it in full.

  • Complete a Learning Log, and submit as evidence.

  • At the end of their internship:

    a) Produce either a 3 minute video or a written reflective statement (700 – 1,000 words).
