Language Courses (Non-Specialist)

The Language Centre provides 20 languages courses in a variety of levels for all students of the University regardless of their degree course.

Courses offered are: Arabic, Czech, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, Modern Greek, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Sign language, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.

The language taught is of a practical nature. Class duration is 10 weeks, for 2 hours per week, as far as possible outside normal University teaching hours.

A University Certificate will be awarded to all students who attend over 70% of the course. Classes commence at the start of October for Semester One and at the start of February for Semester Two.

  • Possessing high level transferable skills such as communication (both oral and written).
  • Displaying global and cultural awareness.
  • Having the ability and desire to learn from oneself and improve one’s self-awareness and performance, to uphold the values of lifelong learning and demonstrate emotional intelligence.

Contact Hours: x2 hours per week for 10 weeks

Level of Work: Class based oral and written work.
