Assistant Leader of the Belfast Branch of the Young Archaeologists' Club
The Young Archaeologists' Club (YAC) is a UK-wide organisation for young people up to the age of 17 years who have, or want to develop, an interest in archaeology and heritage.
The Belfast YAC Branch is run by a group of staff and students from the School of Geography, Archaeology and Palaeoecology, Queen's University Belfast.
The Club meets on the second Saturday of each month (except July and August). Each session has a theme and either starts with a lecture before moving on to practical activities or takes place out on site.
Volunteering with the YAC is very rewarding and provides the opportunity to gain experience of working with children on a range of interesting activities related to the past.
You do not have to be undertaking a degree in archaeology to become an Assistant Leader and we welcome applicants from all disciplines.
Further information about the Club can be found on their website.
To gain Degree Plus recognition Assistant Leaders will need to:
- Completed the formal application process through the CBA, including an Access NI Disclosure check, for which there is no charge.
- Attend 12 sessions over the course of their degree programme.
- Devise and lead two of the above sessions on themes of their choice. For each of these sessions this will involve the preparation of a 20 minute introductory lecture as well as a series of related practical activities. Submit a c. 500 word reflective statement on the learning process involved in the development of each of the two sessions along the lines of the ‘Reflect, Plan, Do and Review’ model.
