Sólás After School Support Volunteer
Sólás provide an After School Club for children aged 4-11 who have ben diagnosed or who are in the process of being diagnosed with Austism, ASD.
Support Volunteers will be epxected to play a role in children's play and development. Support Volunteers will enage in a buddy system, where they will be assigned to a child and work with that child for a defined period, developing a range of skills. These areas of skills development will be set out in the child's 'Learn to Grow' plan, a plan that is devised by the co-ordinator in consultation with the child's parent/carer at the start of the year.
The co-ordinator will liaise with the support volunteer to discuss this plan and offer guidance on activities that encourage children with ASD to interact and socilaise together outside of the school environment whilst developing their skills, interests and creativity. Volunteers will work withour ASD children to help them increase self esteem, communication skills and tolerance of others. Volunteers will help children increase their confidence in engaing new activities.
Throughout the year, the club runs different projects such as Art and Sensory, Music Therapy etc. Support Workers will take part in these activities with their buddies. We have lots of indoor and outdoor games and an array of art equipment. We will ensure each individual child feels valued and motivated to participate but most of all that they will have FUN in a safe environment that recognises their needs.
