At a time when Latinas/os are becoming increasingly more influential in U.S. society, there remains a strong undercurrent of anti-Latina/o discrimination. This session will introduce the key issues faced by the diverse Latina/o population of the United States by looking to various forms of media such as film, TV, music, and literature. As well as identifying the most common stereotypical portrayals of Hispanics in popular culture, participants will consider how the more realistic and nuanced ways Latinas/os represent themselves can challenge these racist and sexist stereotypes.

Please note the workshop will be delivered in English and any Spanish-language media used will be subtitled.
