High Altitude Ballooning
20/05/2019 - 31/05/2019
10:00AM - 5:00PM
Room in CSB or Ashby depending on availability. Launch site expected to be Dungannon.
This project involves the manufacture, launch and recovery of a high altitude weather balloon. The primary aim of this activity is to launch and recover a payload box, however additional goals such as the running of on board experiments and photography during flight will be decided by participants during week one of the project. In order to achieve this, participants will design and construct a payload as well as to program a raspberry pi to act as a central control of the mission goal. HABHUB software will be used to track the payload during flight and to aid recovery.
This activity will run each day from the 20th to the 31st of May. Project work will take place on the majority of these days, however due to the nature of this activity it cannot be determined on which day the launch will take place (weather conditions are launch critical). Students who have registered for the event will be kept well informed over email and in the meetings of the anticipated launch date. A debrief session will take place on the 31st of May, where participants will present what they did, how they did it and any results from potential experiments.
