Why did my Engineering Report only get 58% — Understanding the Marking Criteria
22/05/2019 - 22/05/2019
10:00AM - 4:00PM
David Kier Building 01/033 Computer Suite
Only for Engineering students currently at the end of Stage 1 or Stage 2.
This is a half day workshop focused around technical report writing for engineering reports. It is pitched at students going in to Stage 2 or Stage 3.
Students will develop their understanding of report writing by marking exemplar Stage 2 reports against generic marking criteria. The exemplar reports will be pitched at low 2(ii) and high 2(i) level. Although the exemplars will be based on a previous piece of civil engineering coursework, the issues discussed will relate to broad aspects of report writing, so the workshop will be relevant to all engineering disciplines.
Over the course of the two hours, participants will:
• individually mark two exemplar engineering reports against generic marking criteria;
• discuss in small groups the marks awarded;
• individually develop proposed changes to both reports that would improve the mark; and
• prioritise within small groups these proposed changes developed.
There will be two sessions, students attend one or the other:
Students will be required to book in advance to attend.
