What is it like to hear through someone else’s ears?

‘Ways of Hearing’ will encourage students to probe varied modes of hearing through a series of activities led by Dr John D’Arcy (Lecturer in Digital Media) and Dr Zeynep Bulut (Lecturer in Music). Using voice, body, and amplification technologies, students will explore how sounds interact with architectural and environmental space and how disruption and distortion of amplification technologies can shape individual experiences with sound and voice.  The workshop activities may prompt you to consider your own hearing experience, and how it relates to those of others.

This workshop will be particularly useful for students interested in music, theatre, languages, psychology, audiology, healthcare, communications, and social interactions.

This workshop stems from and is informed by Map a Voice, a collaborative research project initiated and led by Dr. Bulut. Corresponding to Ways of Hearing, we would like to expand on some of the workshop ideas employed in Map a Voice. For further information, please see:  http://www.mapavoice.co.uk

The format of this event will be two sessions, 11:00-1:00, and 1.30-3.30, with lunch provided inbetween.
