“The ability to take data - to be able to understand it, to process it, to extract value from it, to visualize it, to communicate - that's going to be a hugely important skill in the next decades" (Google's Chief Economist, Hal Varian). Given the growing volume of data in contemporary society, the need for good analytical skills is increasingly recognised. In particular, visualising data using graphs or infographics is a highly effective in communicating complex patterns in an accessible way.

R is a widely used statistical software package used by social scientists who wish to make sense of this growing volume of social data. As it’s open-source, R is increasingly used by employers instead of SPSS or other software. This workshop will give an introduction to R for social science students in the university, allowing students to become familiar with the interface and carry out exploratory analysis, focusing on basic data visualisation. No prior knowledge of statistics or R is assumed. Join the data revolution!
