Where are you now?
I am currently employed by Irish Distillers Ltd. as the Jameson Ambassador in Minnesota based in Minneapolis and covering other nearby States when needed. This is my second year as a Jameson Ambassador having spent my first year in Helsinki, Finland.
How did you get there?
Studying Law and Politics for 3 years at QUB gave me a sound background as a graduate, however I had been thinking about entering the Marketing field throughout my final year. I ideally wanted to work for an Irish brand abroad and when I first heard about the Jameson programme it seemed like a perfect fit.
I had no formal marketing experience and so I enrolled and completed the QUB Degree Plus Certificate in Entrepreneurship to hone my existing business skills and gain some insight from some of the excellent and successful businesswomen that gave guest speeches throughout the year.
This Degree Plus course as well as my degree and work experience in the service industry gave me confidence in my skills throughout the Jameson interview process.
Making use of Careers, Employability and Skills at Queen’s
I completed CV writing class in partnership with the careers department and also the Degree Plus certificate in Entrepreneurship. Not only was it a lot of fun to network with other business-oriented students, the practical tasks at hand such as creating and pitching our own business plans helped prepare me for my current job and beyond!
Advice for current Queen's students?
In final year, keep in mind that whatever seems right for the masses in your course may not be what will work for you. It is OK to change your mind about your career path and to look for something that you will really enjoy doing-even if it’s something completely different from what you studied. If you love what you end up doing, it will never seem like work!
