Where are you now?
I am about to start a pre-registration pharmacist position at Pfizer in Kent, where I will be based for six months before moving on to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where I will complete the second six months of my pre-registration training.
How did you get there?
I completed a summer placement within the QUB School of Pharmacy after second year which really stimulated my interest in pharmaceutical research and development. I subsequently applied for and was offered a summer placement with AstraZeneca near Manchester in the summer after third year. I thoroughly enjoyed this and was able to gain first-hand insight into the pharmaceutical industry and opportunities beyond traditional community pharmacy. This experience not only inspired me but also gave me the confidence to apply for an industrial pharmacy based pre-registration position and I was fortunate enough to be offered a position with Pfizer.
Making use of Careers, Employability and Skills
Prior to my application for the AstraZeneca summer placement I used the QUB careers service both to double check my application form and also for interview preparation. This really helped to give me confidence that my application was the best it could be and gave me valuable information in how to approach the interview. The careers service staff were very friendly as well as being superbly trained and knowledgeable.
