As the Employer Engagement team at Queen’s focuses on addressing the skills gap and advancing the skills for jobs agenda, they are backing a new University campaign aimed at improving the skills profile of the Northern Ireland workforce.

SKILL UP, the flexible skills fund has been designed to provide additional upskilling and reskilling opportunities. It is focused on supporting individuals to engage in learning and improve the skills profile of the local workforce.

Funded by the Department for the Economy, a number of free postgraduate courses are available across Digital, Leadership and Management, Green Technologies, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Health.

Sandra Scannell, Employer Engagement Manager at Queen’s says: “The Employer Engagement team at Queen’s is dedicated to equipping our students with the skills that meet the needs of the economy in key sector areas to support the growth of the knowledge-based economy in Northern Ireland. We are focussed on providing skills development solutions for employers and are responsive to the needs and priorities of our employer partners. We also recognise the pivotal role the University plays in underpinning the economic, social and cultural growth of our region.

“The development of skills is essential for driving growth in the economy. Through the SKILL Up campaign, we are encouraging our employer partners to consider how important upskilling is, not just for people entering the labour market, but for established professionals to maintain their employability.”

There are currently a number of PgCert courses available covering a broad range of industries including in Operations and Supply Chain Management, Audiovisual Post-production and Hydrogen Energy Systems.

To be eligible to apply for the courses, you must be over 18 and eligible to work in Northern Ireland.
