Queen’s PGCE students had an opportunity to network with representatives from the education sector at the recent PGCE Education Fair on 25 February.

Students gathered in Whitla Hall for PGCE Fair

Over 120 PGCE students attended the recent PGCE Education Fair in the Whitla Hall, where they had the opportunity to meet employers from across the UK and Ireland.

The event was the first in-person careers fair held on campus since the easing of restrictions and was attended by organisations including iCan Teach UK, Amethyst Education, Teaching Council of Ireland, Louth and Meath Education and Training Board and Engage Education Ireland.

The event kicked off with a welcome address and a Q&A with a panel of head teachers, followed by presentations from industry experts including Dan Wise, Assistant Head Teacher from the Greenacre Academy in Kent who offered advice on Delivering a Mock Lesson and Matt Brown from iCan Teach UK who gave pointers on Interview Questions.

The fair was facilitated by Karen McCann, Careers Consultant for the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work and Victoria Gilroy from the Employer Engagement Team within Queen’s Careers, Employability and Skills service at Queen’s.

Victoria said: “The event provided a great platform for PGCE students to meet potential recruiters in the education sector and discover graduate opportunities. The exhibitors were impressed by the calibre of our students and commented on how enthusiastic and engaged the students were.”

The event was catered by Dominos Pizza.
