Careers in Law Insight Programme

For 2021, the Careers in Law Insight Programme (CLIP) will be delivered online only.
Comprising of employer presentations and Q&A sessions this year’s programme offers second year, third year and all postgraduate students from the School of Law the opportunity to gain workplace insights, recruitment ideas and practical knowledge in relation to their chosen career.
This virtual insight programme will provide student exposure to not only our local legal providers but also to some of largest legal firms from across the UK and further afield.
It will also provide practical information in relation to the admission criteria and training for the Institute of Professional Legal Studies as well as providing up to date information with regard to the new Solicitors Qualification Exam (SQE) coming into effect in England and Wales.
In addition, you will also
- Hear from Barristers and Solicitors from a variety of practice areas.
- Engage with senior professionals and Alumni.
- Find out about summer internships, placements, vacation schemes and training contracts.
- Get valuable tips from some of the largest law firms in relation to standing out in the competitive legal recruitment market.
- Gain a realistic insight into the work life balance and career progression within the legal sector.
- Understand the role of the Law Society of NI
We have 100 online places available on this year’s programme offered on a first come first served basis.
A reserve list will be created consisting of 20 places.
Please note the deadline of 12 noon on 30th April 2021. However, the registration for the programme will close before this if the 100 places and 20 reserve places are filled before this date.
The programme is open to all second year, third year and all postgraduate students from the School of Law only.
By applying to the programme, you will be committing to attend all 6 sessions and in doing so may be able to use the CLIP experience towards Degree Plus Combined Experience (Route B) accreditation.
All applicants must upload an up to date CV onto My Future when applying.
Successful applicants will be sent a relevant Teams meeting request via e-mail.
Please note: Registration for session 3 will be carried out separately by the School of Law.

Global Firms Offer Multiple Pathways
Three Employer presentations from some of the leading Law firms followed by a Q&A
Session 2: 4-5pm
Stand Out In a Recruitment Process
An insightful presentation from Herbert Smith Freehills followed by Q&A
Session 3: 12-1pm
Law Panel – Insights from breadth of legal professionals
Organised by the school of Law, this session will cover traditional practice (Barrister and Solicitor) Social Justice Law and Rights, campaigning work (any queries please contact the School of Law and registration for the event will be carried out by the School of Law)
Session 4: 3.30-5pm
Introducing the Law Society of NI
A presentation from the Law Society of Northern Ireland followed by a Q&A session from some of the leading law firms.
Session 5: 1-2pm
Practicing in England and Wales - LPC and SQE
A representative will discuss practicing and training in England and Wales and will highlight the new Solicitors Qualification Exam (SQE)
Session 6: 3.30-5pm
IPLS and Insights from Local Law Firms
A presentation and Q&A from Barbara Jemphrey, Institute of Professional Legal Studies followed by industry Insights from local NI firms.
