Saturday the 9th of February brought PVC Professor David Jones, the WPU Team and Pathway Students and their families to Riddel Hall for a Celebration Event of their completing the Pathway Opportunity Programme. With a record number of 94 students completing the programme (twice the number of the previous year) it was truly an event to celebrate.
These students had commenced the Pathway Opportunity Programme in January 2018 as year 13 students from schools all around Northern Ireland. Over 2018 they spent a number of individual days at Queen’s and a 5 day summer residential experiencing University life (both academic and social) and studying in one of 6 subject “Pathways”: Law, Business, Computer Science, Archaeology & Palaeoecology, Food Microbiology & Environment and Civil Engineering. The studies culminated in an assessed piece of coursework on the last day of the summer residential which, depending on performance, enabled the students to receive an offer to Queen’s in a Pathway subject course with up to a two A Level grade reduction in that offer.
We look forward to welcoming a significant number of these students to Queen’s University in September 2019. Congratulations to them all!
