The Professor Fluffy Programme is targeted at Year 7 pupils and aims to inspire young people to fulfil their potential by raising awareness of the educational opportunities available to them, including Higher Education. The Professor Fluffy programme is part of the Queen’s Academy which works in partnership with targeted non-selecting post primary schools throughout Northern Ireland.
Professor Fluffy works with the Widening Participation team and our partner primary schools across Northern Ireland.
Professor Fluffy introduces Key Stage 2 pupils to Queen's University; visiting schools to tell pupils about university life in a fun, engaging and interactive way. We feel that it is never too early to make children aware of the exciting opportunities available through higher education. We want to empower primary children with the knowledge and vocabulary associated with University. Through early introduction, we hope to encourage children to set their goals high for the future.
Each participating primary class enrolled in the Professor Fluffy Programme recieves a school visit from Professor Fluffy herself, along with one of the members of our Widening Participation team. The pupils recieve an interactive and engaging talk about Higher Education and have the opportunity to ask lots of questions about University life. Following this, the pupils get a VIP invitation to visit Queen’s University for a campus tour and carousel of STEM skill building activities. Most recently, pupils have been creating parachutes, but in previous years have designed rockets, built geodesic domes and engineered air powered cars! The visit to Univeristy is rounded off by the opportunity for the pupils to try on graduation gowns and take home their very own mini Professor Fluffy.
It is the aim for the Professor Fluffy Programme, here at Queen's University, to inspire Primary children from all backgrounds, to build their asipirations and gain the skills necessary to reach their maximum potential. By encouraging children to think critically about their future, we hope to raise awareness that Higher Education is a life choice available to all.
