Professor Neil Robertson
Professor Neil Robertson applies Artificial Intelligence research to societally important issues
A physicist by training, Professor Robertson started his career in the UK Scientific Civil Service with DERA (2000-2002) and QinetiQ (2002-2007) and was the 1851 Royal Commission Fellow at Oxford University (2003–2006). Now a Computer Vision and Machine Learning expert, Professor Robertson researches new underpinning machine learning methods for visual analytics with a principal focus on person and activity recognition in real video.
He has been a Professor of Research for Image and Vision Systems at Queen's University Belfast since 2016 and has a history of successful technology transfer into real-world security systems. His autonomous systems, defence and security research is extensive. Highlights include 5-year EPSRC Programmes UDRC Phase 2 (2012-2017) and 3 (2018-2023), and the EPSRC RAS CDT (2013-2018). Since 2015, Professor Robertson has been the Chief Technology Officer of AnyVision. An international business based on world-class AI research, AnyVision is now the world-leader in face recognition and visual security with major offices in the USA, UK, Singapore and Israel.
Awards and Recognition
A leader in UK Major Research, Professor Robertson has been the recipient of notable prizes including 1851 Royal Commission Industrial Fellowship, Best Paper Prize (IMA Conference), Best Student Paper Prize (SPIE Conference) and DSTL Wide-Area Motion Imagery Challenge.
