2025 marks sixty years since Professor Emyr Estyn Evans established the Institute of Irish Studies at Queen’s, to promote and co-ordinate research in ‘those fields of study which have a particular Irish interest'. Six decades on we continue to stimulate scholarly conversations around Ireland’s culture, history, society and politics, and its connections to the wider world.

We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone with an end of terms drinks reception on Monday 8 December 2025, in the Irish Studies seminar room, 27 University Square 01/003.

The reception will start at 5.45, following a research seminar by visiting researcher Dr Jessica Martell (Appalachian State Univ.) on 'Beyond plantation mentalities in Irish literature, film, and culture' (starting at 4.30).
