In our series of three online sessions for International Students, you will discover how to build your personal brand, craft an effective CV and cover letter for the UK job market and learn all about the nuances and etiquette of the UK workplace.
Attendance and participation at all three workshops will count as one activity which can be used towards DegreePlus Combined Experience accreditation.
Workshop 1 24th January, 2pm-4pm
Building your personal brand for employability. How to recognise your distinct skills, knowledge and potential gained from overseas experience, identifying transferable and transnational skills, but more importantly how to articulate these skills to potential employers on CV’s and in interviews. Planning and Preparation for Job Search, highlighting timeline, websites and resources on where to look for work experience and employment within and outside of the UK. Importance of being proactive and having an understanding of events such as careers fairs and employer workshops.
Workshop 2 31st January, 2pm-4pm
CVs and Cover Letters. An informative session to cover the basics of writing a suitable CV, including guidance on content, structure, language and key characteristics of a UK CV. Techniques of writing a covering letter will also be included in this workshop.
Workshop 3 7th February, 2pm-4pm
Interview Preparation – How to embrace and be aware of Cultural Differences when looking for a job, interview content and etiquette and how to approach employer questions. On the Job Etiquette, outlining the standards and expectations from UK employers. Will also include appropriate emailing, office language and networking and how to get the most out of your work experience/internship/graduate job.
Join us in the Student Guidance Centre Hub for an informal breakfast networking event aimed at international students. Meet employers from a range of companies and practice delivering your 'elevator pitch' through breakout sessions. Please note, this session is most suited to international students who have completed or intend to complete the other elements of our International Student Employability Programme.
