Chemistry & Chemical Engineering
Virtual Reality Plant (2 hours)
Steam Plant Simulation (2 hours)
Combined Heat and Power Plant visit (2 hours)
Excel workshop (2 hours)
Lab Briefing (1 hour):
A lecture will be given to introduce the students to the laboratory elements of the module.
Lab Experiments:
Students will be divided into groups. Everyone will complete 3 experiments:
Shell and tube heat exchanger (3 hours).
Fluid flow (3 hours).
Vapour liquid equilibria (3 hours).
Pre-labs to be completed and passed for each experiment (not part of assessment profile).
See section 4 for assessment details.
On completion of this module students should have:
Developed understanding of chemical engineering by connecting theory with practical
applications.
Developed understanding of the safety protocols related to specific experiments and the
importance of maintaining safety in laboratory and industrial settings.
Developed the ability to interpret written instructions.
Students are expected to demonstrate the following on completion of the module:
Skills in calculation, experimentation, data analysis, and error evaluation.
Communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write reports.
Reflection on development as a chemical engineer through post-lab report
