Women and Documentary Film

Overview

This module Women and Documentary offers feminist analyses of documentary films. Students will critically examine the representation of gender and other intersectional identities as filmmakers, writers, directors, convey messages to viewers about these roles. Women and Documentary is a theory-based module that introduces students to the principles of a core range of documentary writing and gender studies, including sexuality, social discrimination, ethnography, the chthulucene, and autobiography documentary. Over the course of the module, students will interact with the basic ideas of documentary writing associated with feminism and gender studies engaging in theoretical reading and assignments.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this module, students should be able to:



Demonstrate comprehensive understanding and application of documentary writing and female filmmakers to a high creative standard

Demonstrate critical awareness and analysis on gender studies in documentary film forms and their theorization and application to research writing.

Deploy originality in the theorization of documentary filmmaking
