Academic posters are widely used within the academic community at talks and conferences. They can be a way to advertise your research or spark debate, or as a tool for raising awareness of an issue.
This session will cover how to design, create and present an academic poster. By the end of this session participants should be able to:
- Identify what type of information should be included on an academic poster;
- Understand the key features of a good academic poster;
- Create a poster in PowerPoint;
- Effectively present an academic poster.
Meet the Consultant
This workshop will be delivered by Dr Eimear O’Connor, Researcher Development Consultant at the Graduate School. With 10 years’ experience training and supervising people in a variety of academic and non-academic settings, Eimear enjoys working with others and helping them to develop new skills. Eimear has a PhD in Psychology from Queen’s and stayed with us to complete three years of postdoctoral research. Eimear’s previous experience before taking up her role at the Graduate School included working as an Associate Lecturer at the Open University, a Quality and Compliance Officer in Belfast Met and as a Senior Research Officer for the Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment. Eimear has also worked in the private and voluntary sector.
