Overview

The Lord Kerr Scholarship is given in memory of Baron Kerr of Tonaghmore, Law Alumnus of Queen’s University Belfast (1969), former Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland, and Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom. Lord Kerr had a deep interest in the study of Law at Queen’s and was keen to see its reputation enhanced both at home and on an international basis. The scholarship is intended to encourage the very best home and international students to pursue their postgraduate legal studies at Queen’s.

Applications are invited from exceptional students planning to pursue an LLM Programme within the School of Law.

Further Information

For a domestic student, the Scholarship is valued at £5,000; for an International student the Scholarship is valued at £10,000. Scholarships will be set against course fees.

Law graduates planning to pursue an LLM programme in Law at Queen’s are invited to apply for The Lord Kerr Scholarship by submitting the results of their primary law degree (LLB, MLaw, or JD), together with a written statement of not more than 500 words on why they should be considered for this prestigious Scholarship and what impact the completion of the chosen Master’s programme will have on the applicant’s career. The Head of School’s decision, taken in the light of the recommendations of a Law School panel, will be final. The award will be presented to the successful scholars during their first semester at Queen’s.

The scholars must agree to produce a short report of their studies at Queen’s to be shared with the family of Lord Kerr.
